The only way Anambra State would sustain the momentum of growth it has gained in the past 8 years of purposeful leadership under the administration of Governor Peter Obi is for the people to elect a thoroughbred professional and technocrat who is versed in the management of human and material resources as governor Obi's successor, said Chief Willie Obiano, flag-bearer of APGA in the Anambra gubernatorial poll coming up this Saturday.
Chief Obiano who made these remarks in a chat with the press in Awka also maintained that the state was blessed with enough human capital to lead the charge for rapid development in the West African sub-region and expressed optimism that he would get enough votes from the people on Saturday to lead Anambra into a new phase of growth.
The Aguleri high chief who retired from banking after over 30 years of a glorious career further explained that he left the comfort of his well-earned retirement because he felt that Anambra could only make progress if her best and brightest offered themselves for service.
Expressing his satisfaction with the overwhelming endorsements he has received from every nook and cranny of the state, Chief Obiano explained that the lesson he had learned from the campaign field so far reminded him of the saying by Edumund Burke, the Irish political theorist, that “all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Narrating his campaign experience, the APGA candidate said “the warmth and enthusiasm of Ndi Anambra have been simply amazing. From Ayamelum to Orumba and from Ogbaru to Njikoka, Ndi Anambra have not only received us with open arms, they have given us overwhelming endorsements. That is something my family and I will remember for ever.”
He further pointed out that every campaign stop had offered him an insight into the aspirations of the people, saying that “at every stop and every rally, at every town and village square we have visited, I saw hope rise like the morning sun on the faces of our people. I saw it in the bright eyes of the rice farmers in Omor. I saw it on the faces of the fishermen in Ogbaru and on the faces of our teeming entrepreneurs in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka who voluntarily shut down their shops to welcome us to their communities and I am reminded of the reason why we are in this race.”
Obiano further emphasized that he was in the race purely to help the state reclaim its heritage of greatness as he and his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke were ready and willing to make their years of collective experience in diverse fields count for Anambra when voted into office.
He called on his supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that would make for a peaceful election in the state on Saturday and similarly implored his fellow contestants in the race to strive for a peaceful election, pointing out that 'elections and leaders come and go but the will and resilience of Ndi Anambra will never fade away.'
