Strike Continues till FG complies...

ASUU JONATHANPublic university lecturers on Sunday insisted that they would not return to the classrooms on Monday (today).
They also accused the Federal Government of insincerity in its bid to resolve its dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, confirmed this on Sunday via a Short Message Service to an enquiry made by our correspondent.
The Federal Government had through the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, deferred its earlier ultimatum to the lecturers to resume work on Monday (today) or risk being sacked. The shift was to enable them to participate in the burial of Prof. Festus Iyayi, a former president of ASUU on Saturday.

ASUU STRIKE UPDATE

As the great Nigerian students continue to hold their breathe over whether the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would accept the latest offer of the federal government and end their four-month  strike, uncertainty continues to prevail as regards to when the crucial meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) would hold.

THISDAY NEWSPAPER gathered that the death of the former ASUU President, Prof. Festus Iyayi, is the likeliest reason for the continued delay in holding the NEC meeting.

The much-anticipated NEC meeting would be the decider over the fate of students, who have been idle at home since 1st July 2013.

There were speculations that the meeting would hold last Saturday, after it was cancelled due to the auto crash which claimed the life of the unionist and author.
ASUU’s representatives said there had been no intention to hold the meeting on Saturday.
But some newspapers and sites had reported that the meeting may hold next Friday, even though this was neither confirmed nor debunked by the union.

There were also speculations currently that the union may decide to postpone the crucial meeting till next year.
A labour analyst, however, told THISDAY that the meeting was likely to hold after the burial of Iyayi, which had been tentatively slated for the first week of December.
"They may have decided to postpone the meeting as a mark of honour to their departed colleague, who died while on his way to the meeting. We should also give them that chance to mourn him," he said.

lets keep hoping for the best in good fate...Don't forget to place your comment as we keep serving you better

Willie Ibiano

The only way Anambra State would sustain the momentum of growth it has gained in the past 8 years of purposeful leadership under the administration of Governor Peter Obi is for the people to elect a thoroughbred professional and technocrat who is versed in the management of human and material resources as governor Obi's successor, said Chief Willie Obiano, flag-bearer of APGA in the Anambra gubernatorial poll coming up this Saturday.

Chief Obiano who made these remarks in a chat with the press in Awka also maintained that the state was blessed with enough human capital to lead the charge for rapid development in the West African sub-region and expressed optimism that he would get enough votes from the people on Saturday to lead Anambra into a new phase of growth.

MY DREAM
I dreamt I had an Interview with GOD. “So, you would like to interview me?”  GOD asked.
“If you have time,” I said.
GOD smiled and said “My time is eternity.. what questions do you have in mind for me?.” “What surprises you the most about humankind?.” GOD answered. “They get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.” “They lose their health to make money.. and then lose their money to restore their health.” “By thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live in neither the present nor the future.” “They live as if they would never die, and die as though they had never lived.” GOD’s hand took mine.. and we were silent for a while. And then i asked, “Father Lord God, As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons you want your children to learn?.” GOD replied; “To learn they cannot make anyone love them. All they can do is let themselves be loved.” “To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.” “To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.” “To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in those they love, and it can take many years to heal them.” “To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who needs the least.” “To learn that there are people who love them dearly, but simply do not yet know how to express or show their feelings.” “To learn that two people can look at the same thing, and see it differently.” “To learn that it is not enough that they forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.” “Father Lord God, Thank you for your time,” I said humbly. “Is there anything else you would like your children to know?” GOD smiled, and said.. “Just know that I am here.” “Always”..

STORY OF THE DAY
DISAPPOINTMENT IS NOT THE FINAL CHAPTER IN LIFE. There are times, things don't work out as we want.. Times when our hopes, dreams and expectations came crashing down in tiny pieces to the ground. We all have such days, but how we handle them makes the difference. Some people choose to flounder in frustration and blame after a disappointment. Worse, some people fall into deep depression. But then again others bounce back quickly and with energy. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the current moment. And every moment of your life, including this one right now, is a fresh start. You're not behind, you're exactly where you need to be. The best often comes after the worst happens. If you hadn’t fallen down, you would never have learned how to get back on your feet. If you hadn’t been forced to let go and move on, you’d never have learned that you have the strength to stand on your own as you depend on God. You lost your shoe? but you still have a leg. You lost your pillow? but you still have a head. You missed an opportunity? but you still have yourself. .What is taken away is gone but you are not empty. Start afresh with what you have, you are never too old to start over again..God never ends in a negative.. He will surely bless your effort

DONE DEAL? President Jonathan shares handshake, smile with ASUU delegation
DONE DEAL! President Jonathan shares handshake, smile with ASUU delegation
Yes! Pack your bags!
A source close to top guns in the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) has told The City Reporters the lecturers will ditch their four month old strike this weekend so students could resume on November 18 (next Monday).
The source said there was no way the union could reject the new offer of N220bn a year tabled by President Goodluck Jonathan during a marathon meeting with ASUU last week Tuesday.
ASUU had come out of that meeting to tell Nigerians it needed time to deliberate on the new deal and reach a consensus among it members before talking to the press.
A top official of the union,  has however said the government could not be trusted even on the new offer, and that ASUU’s members were divided over the government’s offer. He, however raised a beam of hope by saying the majority still decided to give  the government the benefit of the doubt.
As ASUU executives meet this Wednesday, if the fate of the strike is down to a vote among the striking lecturers, as suggested by ASUU chairman, Nasir Fagge, the four month old impasse may surely end this week.
ASUU went on strike July 1 over the non-implementation of a 2009 agreement it had with the government with a key component of the memorandum of understanding the allocation of 26% of Nigeria’s total budget to education.
Although the government is planning to allocate just 9% of the 2014 budget to education, ASUU now seems set to end the strike after government offers that would surely boost lecturers’ take home pay and improve varsity infrastructure.
